Getting a good crib sheet is important not only for your child’s comfort but also safety. The best crib sheets fit the mattress snugly, without any wrinkles or excess loose fabric that would pose a health risk to your child.
If your little one has sensitive skin or eczema, choosing proper crib mattress sheets is even harder because you need to pick the right breathable material that won’t irritate their skin.
Speaking from my experience, it is really difficult to find crib bedding that is soft, delicate and doesn’t dry baby’s skin out.
All of my three children have skin irritations and various allergies, and my oldest one had eczema on her face as an infant.
Because the sheet comes in direct contact with child skin, it’s important to choose the best fabric – hypoallergenic, free of toxins, chemicals and common allergens.
This way it won’t make their skin inflammation or dryness worse, especially when they move a lot in their sleep.
Best crib sheet made from breathable, good material is one less thing to cause rashes or eczema in your baby!

6 Safe & Best Crib Sheets For Babies With Eczema
Here are the best crib sheets for standard crib mattresses that are delicate for children skin.
1. Solly Baby Crib Sheet
In my opinion this is the best crib sheet for baby with eczema or other skin conditions. Frankly, it’s the best and softest crib sheet we have ever tried!
Even though they are on the higher end, they are my absolute number #1. There are several features why I love them.
Solly Baby Crib Sheet is buttery soft. In contrast to all other sheets in this ranking, this one is made from 100% certified TENCEL™ Modal fabric.
It feels crazy soft and it has just the right amount of stretch in it. Even though this material is not as natural as organic cotton, it has tons of advantages.
It feels incredibly lightweight, yet it’s durable and doesn’t easily wear down, even if you machine-wash it frequently. According to many parents it is WAY SOFTER than cotton and so MUCH MORE breathable. This means no rubbing on baby skin or itchy rashes.
Modal is a moisture-wicking, extremely breathable fabric, perfect for all seasons and temperatures. It doesn’t trap the heat inside – which means it protects baby from getting sweaty or overheated, and it doesn’t trap the moisture between baby’s skin and the sheet (which could lead to catching a cold, getting rashes etc.)1.
And because it’s stretchy, it fits snuggly on the standard mattress in baby’s crib without any wrinkles or creeping up. Snug fit and smooth surface means lower risk of SIDS or suffocation.
Solly Crib Sheets come in many beautiful colors and lovely prints that fit different nursery decors (including Boho decorations).
They use only non toxic dyes, free of harmful chemicals, heavy metals, phthalates and flame retardants. No skin irritants, no chemical smell. Check out Solly Baby Crib Sheet collection here (ONLY TODAY: use code LITTLE10 for 10% OFF) >>
PRO TIP: Don’t tumble dry them as they may shrink a bit. |
2. Natemia Organic Cotton Crib Sheets
These are one of my favorite natural and organic sheets for baby’s crib. They are not excessively expensive so if you’re looking for the best breathable organic cotton sheets at affordable price – this is the best option.
They are made from 100% organic cotton and are GOTS certified which means they are all natural and free of toxins like pesticides, formaldehyde, heavy metals and brominated flame retardants.
Natemia crib sheet material is silky soft, feels lightweight and breathable. This jersey knit fabric is great for keeping baby cozy at night during wintertime, as well as protecting them from overheating during summer, because it doesn’t trap the heat inside.
All these features make Natemia crib sheets perfect for babies with eczema (e.g. atopic dermatitis). They don’t cause skin irritation or itchiness and don’t dry baby’s skin out.
Natemia Organic crib sheet is machine-washable and according to parents it stands up really well even if you wash it often. Oh, and there’s one more advantage of organic cotton – it gets softer over time.
Now, some technical details. Natemia fits standard crib mattress. Its dimensions are: 28″ x 52″. Thanks to 9″ deep pockets and elastic band around the entire edge, this sheet doesn’t slip off the mattress and stays snug and secure all night long. This is extremely important for baby’s safety because any loose fabric can increase the risk of SIDS.
PRO TIP: I recommend you to choose these white or pink baby sheets, because the package includes not 1, but 2 fitted crib sheets and they are 35% OFF. These are the cheapest best cotton sheets for baby with eczema. No worries if you prefer other colors! If you decide to buy 3 baby’s bed sheets you’ll get a 15% discount (and you will always have some spare crib sheets in case of a diaper blowout!). Grab your discount here >> |
3. Loulou Lollipop Fitted Crib Sheet
This baby’s bed sheet differs from others in this ranking because it’s made of 70% bamboo rayon and 30% cotton.
This blend is somewhere between natural and synthetic fabrics. It makes the sheet feels soft and light, and it allows the air to circulate through.
Loulou Lillipop sheet keeps babies warm and cozy during winter, while during the summertime they don’t sweat. Because this material is so breathable, soft and gentle on their skin, they are less likely to get allergic reaction or itchy rashes.
I’ve read lots of positive reviews from other parents praising this sheet for being ultra soft and delicate for baby’s sensitive skin.
This sheet has standard size: 28″ x 52″ x 9″ therefore it will fit your baby’s crib mattress and stay securely on it all night long. This material is quite stretchy which makes putting the sheet on easier.
I’m sure that you will love the whole Loulou Lollipop collection – their crib sheets come in so many beautiful patterns. My favorites are: Pastel Rainbow, Planets and Safari Jungle. These prints are awesome for stimulating baby’s vision and may also encourage them to tummy time. Here you can pick your favorite color & grab 5% discount with code LOLLI5 >>
This fitted sheet is machine-washable and you can also tumble dry it on low heat.
What distinguishes Loulou Lollipop muslin crib sheet is that is comes with a reusable drawstring bag to keep it from dust and germs during storage or transportation.
4. Pehr Crib Sheet
These organic cotton crib sheets are available in many beautiful colors with GORGEOUS prints that you and your little one will love.
Pehr crib sheet dimensions are: 28″ x 52″ x 8″ and it fits snugly on standard crib mattress. Just like Natemia sheets, this one is also machine-washable and softens with each wash.
Here are the main reasons why Pehr crib sheet is suitable for babies with skin problems:
- It’s made from brushed cotton, it’s naturally hypoallergenic, breathable and crazy soft.
- It is GOTS certified which means at least 95% of textiles are organic.
- The print was made with non-toxic inks and dyes.
- It’s tested to be toxin-free: no formaldehyde, flame retardants, phthalates (these’s are particularly nasty), pesticides or herbicides.
This type of materials keeps your baby from sweating and allows their skin to breathe. Your baby is less likely to have allergic reaction or get overheated.
PRO TIP: There are lots of beautiful patterns, but my absolute favorite is this Pehr Botanica sheet for crib with adorable floral print. |
5. Burt’s Bees Baby Fitted Crib Sheet
This standard crib mattress sheet is made from 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton. It’s super soft and feels really gentle on baby’s skin which is crucial if you have a baby with eczema, rashes, itchiness and other skin conditions.
Its dimensions are 28″ x 52″ and there is lots of room underneath with 8″ deep pockets and extra stretchy band along the entire edge.
Lots of crib sheets creep up on the mattress during the night when the baby moves a lot which poses suffocation risk, but Burt’s Bees Sheet fits snugly and securely and stays in place.
According to parents who have bought this jersey knit sheet, it’s durable and lasts long even if you wash it frequently. Some even say that after several months of use, there are no signs of wear or pilling.
Burt’s Bees Baby Fitted Crib Sheets are available in many single-color options – I’m sure you will find a color that matches your nursery theme.
PRO TIP: Always have an eczema cream at hand for your little itch-haver. I recommend you this Earth Mama Organics Cream. This moisturizer worked miracles for my babies eczema on face. It brings immediate relief for dry and inflamed skin. By the way, it’s suitable for pregnant and new mamas too! |
6. American Baby Company Organic Cotton Crib Sheet
American Baby Company makes various cotton sheets for cribs, mini cribs, toddler’s mattresses and Pack n Plays – they are inexpensive and extremely popular.
For this ranking of the best crib sheets for baby with eczema and other skin conditions I chose sheet made from organic cotton, because it’s softer, more airy and gentle on infant’s skin.
Its dimensions are 28″ x 52″ x 9″ and it fits mattresses up to 6″ thick.
I wish the elastics on the bottom edge had stronger seams and tighter fit but I guess at this price point you can expect some drawbacks. After 10+ washes you may also see some pilling.
There’s more more thing that some parents pointed out. Once you put the baby in the crib, the sheet rises a bit and for newborns it may cause suffocation risk. Therefore this one is a better for older infants and toddlers.
PRO TIP: If you’re struggling with your baby’s eczema, keep in mind that skincare products that you use (especially for bath time) are extremely important. They can either soothe eczema, or trigger further flare-ups. Check out our article about best baby washes for eczema with safe and natural ingredients. |

What Sheets Are Best For Eczema?
Here’s a checklist for choosing the best sheets for baby with eczema or sensitive skin:
- Made from organic cotton, bamboo or Tencel™ Modal2,
- Feels soft and delicate, doesn’t rub baby skin
- Fabric is breathable, allows the air to circulate through and wicks moisture away,
- A bit stretchy, with elastic band along the entire edge,
- Fits the mattress snugly and creates smooth surface, without wrinkles or loose fabric,
- Doesn’t slip off when the baby moves,
- Machine-washable for easy cleaning,
- High-quality and durable to hold up well often washing.
How Many Crib Sheets Does My Baby Need?
I recommend having 3 crib sheets, so you could always have a fresh one to place (in case of a diaper blowout!). So one on the mattress, one in the washing, one to spare.
This is a sufficient stash, if you plan on changing your child bedding 1-2 times per week. If you want/need to place fresh sheets in the crib every day, you will need 5-7 crib sheets.
More information and tips for choosing the right amount of baby crib sheets you can find in my article here.
How Often Should I Change Baby Crib Sheets?
You should change crib sheet 1 or 2 times per week3. In case of milk spills, spit-up, diaper blowout or similar accidents you should change child’s bedding immediately.
What Material Is Breathable For Crib Sheets?
Breathable material for crib sheets is cotton (regular one, or even better – the organic one), bamboo, Tencel™ Modal, and linen. The latter one feels quite rough, especially at the beginning, that’s why it may not be a good option for babies with eczema (atopic dermatitis).
What Is The Best Material For A Crib Sheet?
Everything depends on your baby’s preferences, skin conditions, and obviously your budget.
It’s best to choose fabrics that are GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified – this means that 95% of the textiles have organic origin. Moreover, toxic chemicals cannot be used in the production process (no formaldehyde, heavy metals, flame retardants, or pesticides).
Speaking from my own experience, the best materials for crib sheets are organic cotton, bamboo rayon + cotton blend and Tencel™ Modal.
Pros
- Breathable (modal is the lightest and most breathable fabric out of these 3 types)
- Crazy soft and gentle on the skin
- Don’t irritate the skin, cause rashes or itchiness
Cons
- Tend to be more expensive (regular cotton may be a good alternative, it’s more budget-friendly, if you can’t afford the organic one)
You have a few more options: linen, polyester, microfiber. Generally speaking I don’t recommend them for babies with skin conditions and here’s why:
|
Are Microfiber Crib Sheets Good?
I’m know that lots of best-selling, popular and cheapest sheets for baby’s standard crib are made from microfiber and some parents even recommend them for babies prone to skin irritations.
I guess not all parents are aware that microfiber is a synthetic fabric, typically a polyester-nylon blend. Of course it has some advantages: it’s durable, water-resistant and usually holds its color well. However, this type of fabrics has lots of drawbacks which you should know about, especially if your child has skin conditions.
In contrast to cotton, microfiber crib sheet tends to trap more heat. It can make your kiddo sweat a lot.
Moreover, some brands that make synthetic / microfiber sheets use chemicals to color and finish them: formaldehyde, chlorine bleach (hence the bleach smell), flame retardants, phthalates, carcinogenic and allergy-inducing dyes or heavy metals4.
If you’re still opting to buy microfiber crib sheets check if they are tested to be free of all those nasty chemicals and bad smells.
What Thread Count Should I Look For In A Crib Sheet?
The thread count means how many vertical and horizontal threads there are per square inch5.
The higher the thread count the softer the crib sheet feels. Starting from 200 thread count, the sheet should feel sufficiently comfy, but you can choose 400 for even softer feel.
What Is The Standard Size Of Baby Crib Sheets?
Standard-sized crib sheets dimensions are: 28″ x 52″. Usually the pockets are 8 or 9 inches deep and fit 5″ – 6″ thick mattresses.
Keep in mind that sheets for mini cribs are smaller, while pack and plays have thinner mattresses. Always choose best sheets designed for your baby mattress to ensure secure fit.
How Tight Should Crib Sheets Fit?
With elastic band along the entire bottom edge, the crib sheet should snugly fit around the mattress. It should be smooth on the sleeping surface, without any wrinkles or excess of fabrics. Avoid sheets that creep up because any loose fabric increases the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
Are Crib Sheets Safe?
According to AAP6, in order to keep your child safe during the bedtime, you should choose appropriate mattress size and the sheet in the right size so it fits snugly, without any excess, loose fabric.
Skip other crib bedding, bumpers, fluffy blankets, stuffed animals etc. because they increase the risk of SIDS or Sleep Related Infant Deaths.
