While this review is about wet bags, these handy bags can do so much more!

Even if you’re not using reusable diapers, your baby can still have a diaper blowout. Save that filthy onesie: drop it in a wet bag to control the mess and smell.

If you’re trying to be more eco-conscious parent, this is also a fantastic solution. Stop using a single use plastic bags and opt for a travel wet bag.

Store snacks, wet swimsuits or a toddler’s muddy shoes, spare clothes – the options for wet bags are really endless. As a parent, you will never regret having a quality wet bag on hand.

Choosing The Best Wet Bag For Cloth Diapers – Reviews

Below you can read the best wet bag for cloth diapers reviews from my personal experience as a mom of 3.

Before you make your purchase, consider carefully if you need only wet bags (for dirty diapers, wet onesies or swimsuits) or if you’d like to have a few wet/dry bags too (for storing both dirty and clean diapers, spare cloths and even a few mom’s essentials in separate pockets).

Here are the most reliable and top-rated wet bags and wet/dry bags for cloth diapers are:

1. Bumkins Waterproof Wet Bag

The Bumkins is a great cloth diaper wet bag for an affordable price. It can hold approx. 6 cloth diapers.

It also works fantastic as a travel organizer. There is a useful carry strap that allows you to attach it to the stroller handlebar which is very convenient.

Bumkins Waterproof Wet Bag
Bumkins Wet Bag

These bags are 100% polyester with TPU coating, which means they are easy clean – just throw them in the washing machine.

Thanks to the polyurethane liner, it contains smells really very well. If you have a stinky soiled diaper in there, you won’t even smell it.

The fabric is waterproof and works well for preventing the moisture from soaking through.

Lots of parents uses Bumkins for carrying other items like breast pump parts, wet swimming suits, toiletries or sippy cups. Some moms use them as snack bags for fruits and veggies.

There’s one more thing to love about Bumkins: the price is reasonable for an on-the-go wet bag.

ProsCons

Pros

+ Affordable price

+ No leaking

+ Prevents odors from spreading around

+ Folds flat when empty

+ It one of the most durable bags - it holds well to frequent washing (up to 9 months)

+ Fits 6 cloth diapers

+ Multi-purpose bag - parents use it for clothes, toiletries, as a travel organizer or snack bag

+ Bumkins is also available here as a wet/dry bag in bigger size (12" x 16") with 2 pockets which can fit some spare diapers and onesies

Cons

- Some parents wish there was a second strap for easier attachment to stroller or changing table

2. Itzy Ritzy Sealed Wet Bag

This Itzy Ritzy bag is cute and leakproof: the simple zipper closure keeps everything securely inside. It has one pocket for your dirty or clean diapers, and a convenient strap so you could attach it to your stroller handle.

Itzy Ritzy Wet Bag For Cloth Diapers
Itzy Ritzy Wet Bag

It comes in two sizes: in dimensions of 11″ x 14″ (perfect for my diaper bag) or the large size which is a few inches bigger, at 14″x 17″, and can hold diapers and an outfit for two or more babies. You can find the bigger bag here >>

One drawback of this bag is the cost. Another issue is with the outer fabric. This bag has a cotton exterior, which looks cute but means that cleaning isn’t quick and easy. Compared to others, I do find the outer fabric a bit annoying: you can’t wipe it clean, and after washing the bag in the laundry it needs time to air dry.

ProsCons

Pros

+ Easy carry strap and with snap

+ Comes in cutest and most adorable prints

+ Size is ideal for a diaper bag

+ No smell, no mess

+ Empty bag folds flat

+ Durable, looks good even after a few months and often washing

Cons

- Pretty expensive

- Cotton exterior needs more time to dry after washing

3. ALVABABY Cloth Diaper Wet Dry Bags

I recommend the AlvaBaby Cloth Diaper wet/dry bags for parents. These are the best travel wet-dry bags out there; great for on-the-go and keeping in your diaper bag or car.

ALVABABY Wet Dry bag
ALVABABY Wet Dry Bag

AlvaBaby has used 100% waterproof material and each bag has two zippered pockets. What’s more is that they offer a one-year guarantee on each bag.

These are the most reasonably priced and each set includes two bags. The main complaint about these bags are that soaking-wet items may cause the bags emit moisture and feel damp. You should wring-out very wet items before placing in the pockets.

ProsCons

Pros

+ Great size (carries 5-6 diapers easily)

+ Wet and dry pockets, each with a zippered closure

+ Made from polyester material which controls smell

+ One of the cheapest wet bags, still great quality

+ Durable, looks good even after a few months and often washing

+ Comes as a bundle of 2 or 3 bags - great option for younger babies who use more diapers

Cons

- Cannot handle soaking-wet items, may allow moisture to get through

- Dry pocket is not stretchable - if wet pocket is full, there's almost no room in dry pocket

4. Wegreeco Reusable Hanging Wet Bag For Cloth Diapers

If you’re cloth diapering, you definitely need something to store soiled cloth diapers in at home. One of the best hanging wet bags for cloth diapers is this Wegreeco hanging wet bag.

Weegreeco Hanging Wet Bags For Cloth Diapers
Weegreeco Hanging Wet Bags

I don’t use a diaper pail because we don’t have a lot of space in our laundry room, however another mom told me she loves this because it works as a perfect pail liner for her. The hanging wet bags are my favorite because they are up and out of the way. They are also easy to clean – just throw them in with the diapers on laundry day. Get two so you always have one while the other is being washed.

ProsCons

Pros

+ Eliminates the need for diaper pail - this hanging wet bag is my preferred choice for dirty diaper storage at home

+ Works as an eco-friendly pail liner if you use a diaper pail

+ Well-made: strong straps, no leakage

+ Can contain odors for a couple of days

+ Ideal size for baby's dirty diapers for a few days

+ Comes as a bundle of 2 bags - so you could always have one in spare when the other one is in laundry

Cons

- Long exposure to urine can breakdown the material (it's recommended to wash it every 2-3 days)

5. Planet Wise Reusable Wet Dry Bag

The Planet Wise Bags are practical and well-made. They come in several sizes of bags, from small to large.

Planet Wise Wet Dry Bags Reusable
Planet Wise Wet Dry Bags

I find the medium size (dimensions 12.5 x 15.5) is perfect for holding soiled clothes or dirty diapers and dropping in the bottom of my stroller. The large one works perfect for storing dirty nappies in laundry room and controlling the smell.

The bag’s design uses hidden, sealed seams with PUL liners to ensure a waterproof interior pocket that holds up to lots of washes. There are two separate compartments; one for storing soiled cloth diapers (or wet bathing suits at the swimming pool) and another for clean diapers.

What I don’t like? Despite the quality, I wish this bag was more budget-friendly.

ProsCons

Pros

+ Holds 9+ diapers

+ Contains smells for several days

+ Designed to be leakproof with a liner, a zipper and interior rolled seams

+ Great for traveling

+ Machine washable for easy cleaning

+ Durable material and strong straps for use as a hanging wet bag

Cons

- Soaking-wet items should be wrung-out, otherwise it may leak a bit

- Too large for on-the-go use

6. Buttons Cloth Diapers Wet Bag

The Buttons brand makes one of the best large wet bags for storing dirty cloth diapers at home.

Buttons Best Large Wet Bag For Cloth Diapers
Buttons Large Wet Bag

When I first started cloth diapering, it was wash day every day! But, that became a challenge very quickly, so I started storing diapers for 2 or 3 days before throwing in the wash. This bag is great for holding dirty cloth diapers for a few days. I’d even say its one of the best large wet bag for cloth diapers.

It keeps odors in. Even if you have dirty diapers in there for several days, you won’t smell a thing! That’s because of the liner, and the shell, and the zippered closure – three factors. This is a great design for dirty or damp diapers and can hold them for a couple of days without odors or leakage.

This is my largest bag and can hold approximately 9 pocket diapers and inserts (like the Smart Bottoms’ brand). If you use liners and folding diapers, then it can hold even more – at least 12. This is great for me and my laundry schedule because I have a big family. But, if you wash diapers less frequently you will need either a second wet bag, or another storage option.

The outside is made out of the same durable polyurethane laminate (PUL) material as the covers of my all-in-2 cloth diapers, which means its easy to wash and dry. However, dripping-wet diapers (such as soiled diapers that have been sprayed down) should not be put directly in the bag.

ProsCons

Pros

+ Holds 9+ diapers

+ Contains smells for several days

+ Designed to be leakproof with a liner, a zipper and interior rolled seams

+ Great for traveling

+ Machine washable for easy cleaning

+ Durable material and strong straps for use as a hanging wet bag

Cons

- Soaking-wet items should be wrung-out, otherwise it may leak a bit

- Too large for on-the-go use

7. Parker Baby Cloth Diaper Wet Dry Bag

This bag is very similar to the SkipHop bag that I review below. This is a cute waterproof bag with separate compartments: a lined pouch for wet things and a zippered pocket for dry items.

Parker Baby Wet Dry Bag
Parker Baby Wet Dry Bag

The two complaints are that the pouch is a bit bulky and doesn’t fold flat when empty (that’s because of the PEVA lining), and that after several washes, the waterproof pouch may crack and tear (that’s also because of the lining).

Again, not ideal for diapers, but a good idea as a travel organizer for baby’s things.

ProsCons

Pros

+ Matches Parker Baby diaper bags, and fits in majority of diaper bags for cloth diapers

+ Mesh pocket for dry items, wet pouch for dirty cloth diapers

+ Lined wet pouch contains odor

+ Machine washable

+ Convenient strap that attaches to stroller

Cons

- At this price point, I would expect the lining to hold up better to multiple washes

- In contrast to other wet bags, it doesn't fold fully flat

8. Skip Hop Wet Dry Bag

I wouldn’t say it is THE best wet dry bag for cloth diapers, although it works well as a travel organizer and it has lots of positive reviews.

Ship Hop Wet Dry Bags
Ship Hop Wet Dry Bag

This bag has two compartments: a mesh pocket for clean, dry items and a lined pouch for wet items. The PEVA lining keeps out water (and prevents bacteria) and contains odor, too.

It is machine washable, but the inner lining does not hold up to long-term use: in less than 6 months, the ‘wet’ section will likely have cracks and tears and will no longer be fully waterproof. And let’s be honest, at this (high) price point, I would expect it to last longer.

ProsCons

Pros

+ Good size for on-the-go

+ Easy to carry strap with snap

+ Zippered closures

+ Two pockets, mesh and line for wet and dry items

+ Lined pocket contains odor and wetness

+ Machine washable and quick-drying

Cons

- Lining wears out after multiple washes

- High price

Best Cloth Diaper Wet Bags – What To Look Out For?

Here are some features that you should look out for if you’re in the hunt for the best cloth diaper wet bag.

  • Waterproof

A wet bag is for preventing wet or dirty items from soiling anything else. They should be leakproof, easy to clean and durable (they should hold up to multiple washes). Get the best wet bag that contains odors – carrying a stinky diaper bag around is a nightmare!

  • Design – Wet & Dry Compartments

There are 3 types of wet bags: wet bags with one compartment, wet/dry bags with two separate compartments, and large hanging wet bags for use at home.

A small wet bag is for easy carrying when you are out of the house. It should be compact and travel-friendly, yet capacious enough to fit a few soiled nappies.

A wet/dry bag is for traveling or when running errands. Choose one that has separate compartments to keep dry items from soiled ones. The wet compartment should be waterproof. The pockets should have enough space even if one side is full.

A hanging wet bag should be the largest bag and hold dirty diapers for several days without leaking odors. The best large wet bag for cloth diapers not only contains odors, but also prevents growth of bacteria and mold.

  • Odor-Control

Look for the best sealed wet bag that will prevent unpleasant smell from spreading around. Zipper closures should prevent odor and moisture leaks. Moreover, the zipper should easily pull with one hand – everything for parents should be easy to do with one hand!

  • Bag Size – Capacity & Portability

The best wet bag for cloth diapers is what works best for you!

If you want a wet/dry bag for cloth diapers, then choose something that fits in your diaper bag or stroller and holds enough dirty diapers for your lifestyle: if baby goes to daycare, or if you need it just for running errands or if you are going away for the weekend.

If you want the best hanging wet bag for cloth diapers, choose one that contains smells and holds enough for your specific laundry schedule. Large wet bags are good for use at home, to hold many dirty diapers until laundry day.

Make sure your bag has a strap or two so you could hang at home or at the stroller handlebar, for convenient use.

Best Wet Bags For Cloth Diapers – FAQ

You already know what are the best wet bags for cloth diapering, now it’s time to learn a bit more about how to use them and how many you should purchase.

Reusable Bags For Soiled Nappy

What Are Wet Bags For Cloth Diapers?

Wet bags are typically used to hold wet or soiled cloth diapers. However, they can be used to hold breast pumps and parts, organize clothes when traveling, or for snacks and sippy cups. Basically, anything you need to keep separate and prevent leakage onto other items.

What Are Wet/Dry Bags For Cloth Diapers?

Wet/dry bags have two compartments for storing wet or dry items. They keep clean diapers separate from soiled ones. Zippered pouches or pockets are either both sealed against moisture, or one is mesh, for dry and clean items.

These versatile bags are not just for cloth diapers, they are a convenient, eco-friendly choice for all parents, they are a great way to organize items when traveling, store snacks or pack wet swimsuits.

By the way, I have several wet bags and use them as organizers for toiletries, underwear and all cables or chargers when we travel.

Are Wet Bags Necessary For Cloth Diapers?

Wet bags are pretty much necessary for cloth diapers.

You can never guarantee when your baby will need a diaper change, and you will have to store that dirty diaper somewhere. At home, too, you will need a practical solution to keep your dirty or wet diapers in until you do laundry. This could be with a pail and liner or with hanging wet bags.

Wet Bags with stroller attachment

How Many Wet/Dry Bags Do I Need?

These bags are so useful and versatile, you will want plenty. Personally, I aim to have at least two wet/dry travel bags every every child who is not yet potty trained. This means when one is in the wash, I have a back-up.

Same for hanging wet bags for cloth diapers: I say two large bags for every child. It is recommended to wash dirty diapers every 2-3 days, anyway, because of the acid created by urine in wet diapers. If I didn’t wash so frequently, I would probably need three bags to hold all the dirty diapers.

Newborns may go through 10 diapers a day, so keep that in mind when buying a large wet bag and ask yourself if it will hold enough diapers until you do laundry.

How Do I Use A Wet/Dry Bag For Cloth Diapers?

A wet/dry bag separates clean and dirty diapers, especially when you are not at home.

  1. Place your clean, reusable cloth diapers (I use pocket covers with inserts – like Smart Bottoms – but it works the same if you use all-in-ones or pre-folds with covers) in the ‘dry’ section before you leave for the day.
  2. When you do a diaper change, roll up the soiled diaper and any messed clothes and place in the ‘wet’ compartment and close the zipper.
  3. When you get home, drop the dirty items in the laundry or one of hanging wet bags.
  4. Wipe down the pocket and leave the zipper open to allow it to air out.
  5. Wash the entire bag every 2-3 days, or as often as needed.

Are Wet Bags Smell Proof?

Unfortunately, most wet bags are not smell-proof. They might contain smells for a few hours, but if you keep a stinky diaper in there for a while, you are surely going to smell it!

However, a great wet bag will contain smells – like the Bumkins one that I recommended above.

Are Wet Bags Breathable?

Cloth diaper wet bags should be breathable to prevent bacterial growth. If they’re not breathable, over time you will face issues with mold, especially at the seams or between the inner and outer shell.

Are Wet Bags Waterproof?

Generally speaking wet bags are waterproof – they are designed to prevent leakage from damp and soiled diapers. They usually have a lining made from TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) which is a durable and waterproof material. Nevertheless, I never recommend putting soaking wet things in these bags as they may start to feel damp or even soak through. Always wring out items like wet swimsuits before placing them in a wet/dry bag.
